The Children’s Metamorphosis invites everyone to Met Day, an open house with free admission and a variety of activities on Saturday, October 6, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
“The community was incredibly generous and supportive through our recent ‘Save the Met’ fundraising campaign,” said Tracy LaPlante, executive director of the Met. “Met Day is our way of saying thank you, and encouraging people to come in and see just what it is they helped save.”
Met Day features craft projects, face painting, multiple raffles, exhibit tours, and other fun activities all day long. Lunch and refreshments will be available throughout, including fresh pizza and healthy beverages and snacks.
At 11:00 am, Partners In Rhyme will take over part of the museum for a live performance of their popular interactive music, movement, and storytelling show.
At 3:00 pm, professional magician and comedian Matt Roberts will perform a live magic show. A headliner for events around the region, Matt has performed on network morning news shows, and is the “Magic Man” character in the national television series Ribert and Robert’s Wonderland broadcast by PBS and the Armed Forces Network.
Met Day is both a celebration of the successful Save the Met campaign and the kick off of a new membership drive. An annual membership costs just $75, and provides unlimited free daily admission for family members plus discounts on special programs and activities. An expanded membership for $125 includes a card for free admission to museums throughout the country that are part of the Association for Children’s Museums (ACM, www.childrensmuseums.org). Membership donations are also welcome; deserving families will receive these through partnerships with local charitable organizations.
Families booking new memberships on Met Day will receive a special package featuring treats from Lindt Chocolates and a valuable coupon book for Stonyfield Farm products. They will also avoid an expected January 1st increase in the membership fee.
“An annual membership is both an appreciated gesture of support and a great value for families taking advantage of it,” said Paul Lindemann, acting chair of the Met’s board of directors.
The Met would like to thank these sponsors for their generous support of Met Day:

Met Day FireShuttle for the Soccer JamboreeAlso on Saturday Ocotber 6th, Derry is host to a multi-town Soccer Jamboree. Thanks to the generous support of private fire engine owner Dave McPherson, we are able to offer a shuttle service between the tournament games and the Met. Moms or dads with little non-players might go check out the Met during the tournament, or take younger players over to fill two or three hour-long breaks between games.
Get a map and read more details in our Met Day Soccer Jamboree flyer (PDF).
While you're exploring the Met, help support us by taking a chance on these generously-donated items (some might get reserved for future events).
