The Children's Metamorphosis
The Met ... a museum for growing children

About the Met, The Children's Metamorphosis

The Children’s Metamorphosis, affectionately know as The Met, is a non-profit children’s museum located in Downtown Derry, New Hampshire. The museum serves communities in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts and sees over 30,000 visitors a year. The museum has over twenty exhibits based on role play and imagination. The exhibits are designed to encourage children, ages one to eight, and their parents or caregivers to interact with each other, learning as they play. Many studies show that early education and a parents’ involvement is key to a child’s success in school, their confidence and self esteem.

Along with our exhibits we have educational programs and workshops for children ages toddler to eight years old and their families. Our programs and workshops are topic based and are specifically designed with age appropriate activities, books and crafts. Some of our programs, such as The Preschool Workshops, are designed to give three to four year olds a first experience in a classroom environment. Other programs such as our Toddler Time encourage parents and children to interact with each other and help parents take an active role in their children’ s development.

Safety and Security at the Met

The Met is specifically designed to be a safe and comfortable environment for children and families.

  • Everything is on one floor, making it much easier to keep track of children than in a multi-story facility.
  • There is only one entrance and exit, and it is in our Welcome Center (lobby) with a staffed desk.
  • No adult visitors are allowed to enter without a child.
  • Everyone is checked in at the front desk.

The main parking for the Met is in a municipal lot. It is very public, and the police know to patrol it frequently.
